Heavy snow with the FujiFilm X-T4
Sitting inside a late Sunday evening it suddenly started to snow quite heavily, I was living out the old childhood nostalgia of putting together LEGO for the first time in about 20 years and I did what most of you probably also know and maybe do, I told myself, nah I’ll go out next time the snow hits like this, probably took 20 minutes before my gf insisted that we should go out and have a look as I had said the same thing last time, so we grabbed our clothes, I grabbed the X-T4 with the 33MM F1.4R LM WR (roughly 50MM full frame equivalent) and out we went!
When you do decide to go out in quite heavy snow or rain I highly recommend you either set your camera to only use the LCD screen or EVF, often times what happens is there will be some water or snow hitting the little sensor that triggers the EVF if something is close to it, this can be quite annoying if you’re trying to take a photo with the LCD and suddenly the screen is black due to snow or rain triggering the sensor.
- Set the view mode to either EVF or LCD ( usually a button for this near the viewfinder)
- Preferably a weather sealed camera and lens, cheap solution is a plastic bag or a lens shroud.
- I will often wipe off the snow/rain with my glove or sleeve
As you can see it is snowing quite a bit, neither the lens nor camera showed any signs of issues both during the time outside and when I came back. I've had both the camera & lens with me in various rainy or snowy conditions and so far they have been rock solid! I'm always mindful and wipe the rain or snow off, they might be weather sealed but that doesn't guarantee it will last in harder conditions forever.
More or less all the shots were taken at F/1.4 with Fujifilm's Classic Chrome film simulation and all are straight out of camera JPEGs to give you an idea of what this camera/lens combo can produce.
